TEXT: McDougal Littell Cost: $49.50 Website: www.mcdougallittell.com

OVERVIEW: Topics in first semester include Basics of Geometry, Reasoning and Proof, Perpendicular and Parallel Lines, Congruent Triangle, Properties of Triangles, and Polygons. Material is taken from chapters 1-6. This course covers objectives 1.1-1.12 of the GA objectives. Geometry will involve hands-on applications, technology-based exploration and the integration of algebra skills.

MATERIALS: Textbook, 3 ring binder with dividers, pencil, and paper. Optional: a
scientific calculator. Compasses and protractors will be used throughout the year. I will have some available for classroom use, but the students will need to have their own to complete homework when necessary.

GRADING POLICY: Grading Scale: FINAL GRADE DETERMINED BY…
90%-100% A Final Exam 15%
80%-89% B Tests 50%
70%-79% C Assignments 15%
Below 70% F Quizzes 15%
Labs / Projects 5%

FINAL EXAM: There will be a cumulative final exam at the end of the first semester which will comprise 15% of the students total grade.

TESTS: A test will be given at the end of each chapter. Also, additional tests may be added at my discretion. Each test will be announced in advance. Any student absent the day of the review will be expected to take the test with the class on the scheduled day.

HOMEWORK: Homework is assigned daily. Students are expected to write each question, draw all pictures, show all work and correct their own mistakes. Regular attendance in this class is essential in order for each student to be successful. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!

QUIZZES: There will be at least one quiz per chapter this semester. Most quizzes will be announced 24-48 hours before they occur. Pop quizzes are always a possibility.

LAB REPORTS: We will visit the computer lab several times this semester. You will be responsible for a lab report on each visit. These reports will always be due at the beginning of class the day after we are in the computer lab, unless you are told otherwise.

ATTENDANCE and MAKE UP WORK: Regular attendance in this class is essential in order for each student to be successful. In the event of an unexpected absence, it is the student’s responsibility to find out the work to be made up and to have it completed in a timely fashion. If the absence is due to a field trip or TAG, it is the student’s responsibility to get the assignment ahead of time and have it completed upon their return to class. If the student misses the day before a test, he/she is expected to take the test as scheduled. When only the day of a test is missed, the student must be prepared to take the test during the next class period he/she is present. Any other work missed due to extended absences can be made up by appointment.

RECOVERY:
FULTON COUNTY RECOVERY POLICY:
(High School version)
Provision for Improving Grades
1. Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from a low or failing cumulative grade will be allowed when all work required to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements including attendance.
Students should contact the teacher concerning recovery opportunities. Teachers are expected to establish a reasonable time period for recovery work to be completed during the semester. All recovery work must be directly related to course objectives and must be completed ten school days prior to the end of the semester.
2. Teachers will determine when and how students with extenuating circumstances may improve their grades.
CHATTAHOOCHEE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDELINES FOR RECOVERY:
Recovery is available to students with a cumulative grade below 74% after a minimum of two (2) major grades. The maximum grade a student can earn for a recovery activity is 70%. There will be only one recovery opportunity per failed major assignment or test. The individual teacher will determine the means of recovery. THE STUDENT MUST INITIATE THE PROCESS WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS OF NOTIFICATION OF A FAILING GRADE ON A MAJOR ASSIGNMENT/TEST.

CONDUCT: All students are expected to be on-time, prepared for class, respectful of others and involved in all class activities. Appropriate language is expected at all times. Be ready to start class when the bell rings. You will be marked tardy if you are not in your assigned seat when the bell rings. No food or drinks in class except bottled water.

PARENT CONNECT: Parent connect (http://chattahoocheepc.fultonschools.org/ ) is a software program available to allow parents to keep up with their student’s grades. Parents may check grade summaries and dates of upcoming tests. Please, remember that it may take several days to actually enter the grades into the system.
